Autumn News

At left, "Velvet," a 2007 filly by Sierras Super Star out of Etta Success, snoozes in the afternoon sun. Velvet is not for sale - she'll be at the shows next year and a member of our broodmare band in the future.

Congratulations to Kimberly Lane on her purchase of SS Shez A Mae Zing. "Mae" is a two year old that we sold earlier this year who had to be resold due to her new owner's pregnancy and a move. We could not be more delighted that she is now with Kimberly, who plans to use her for trail riding and team penning. Mae is currently being ponied on trail rides to learn about the world and will be started under saddle this winter. She is busy flirting with Kimberly's geldings and generally endearing herself to everybody, horse and human, that meets her!

We need to take more pictures, but just have been so busy with our hay business that it is hard to do anything else. Everybody is stocking up for the winter - a good idea since prices are rising quickly and orchard grass is becoming increasingly difficult to find. If you are looking for hay, we have both alfalfa and orchard grass, so please feel free to give us a call at 360-721-1386.

Another great update on Ted Astaire!

We are so proud of Ted Astaire (KLR Reflection x Pretty Desireable by The Dignitary)! Teddy has been under saddle less than a month, and today we received a glowing report and pictures of him on a trail ride with his trainer Mary Majetich.

Mary tells us "Ted's first trip out and he was ponied for about an 9 mile trip (He climbed about 1,000 feet to Crystal Mt). The second time out on the trails we went to GreenWater and Ted got a bunch of water crossings. He has proven himself a very safe trail horse and I love his attitude. "

Following quietly over a narrow bridge. This is the disposition we breed for - a horse who is equally comfortable on the trails as he is in the show ring.

Teddy crossing water like a pro. All he cares about is getting a cool drink!

If you're looking for a trainer who will get your colt out there to see the world, not just arena broke, Mary can be reached at mmajetich@gmail.com. She has done an awesome job with Teddy and we highly recommend her!

We received a good report on Ted Astaire's training progress - he is already riding at a walk, trot, and canter, and behaved like a superstar on his first trail ride!

The only problem is that he has been known to jump out of the round pen.

Oh well, that seems to be a family tradition - watch this video of another of KLR Reflection's 2 year olds getting bored with the round pen!

Ted Astaire has a new home!

Congratulations to Rory Godinez on his purchase of our two year old gelding, Ted Astaire (KLR Reflection x Pretty Desirable by The Dignitary). Teddy will be going out for training immediately and we look forward to hearing about his progress!

Congratulations to more new owners!

Joe and Marlene Perdue stopped by the day after they got married to look at some "wedding gifts" for Marlene. Her much loved 23 year old barrel mare is getting older, and so she wanted a new baby to work with and raise up as her replacement. While our sorrel filly by Sierras Super Star ("Floyd") out of Justa Dot Onthe Page caught Marlene's eye, the sorrel colt of Floyd's out of Midnight Hussy started following Joe around and loving on him. You know, sometimes they just pick who they want to be owned by, and that is exactly what happened. Joe and Marlene ended up with a set of his-and-hers weanlings! We are so happy for them and for the babies who will be going home with them at weaning time and have each other to play with as they grow up.

Our cremello yearling filly, "Sugar," also went home this week, with breeders Roy and Lyn Galusha. Sugar will be a 100% color producer and is also one of the sweetest fillies around. She loves people and we know she will be a breeze to train. Congratulations to the Galusha's on their new addition!
Pictured at right, on the right, with Shez Pretty Lovely on the left, a two year old we will be keeping for our broodmare band.

Finally, it was time for our orphan baby, "Frankie" to leave the nest. Born March 4th, he lost his dam at 4 days due to a nasty torsion colic. Our old broodmare Buffy was happy to take the colt under her wing and between Buffy and milk replacer, he has done very well! He goes to join Kit Cluesive and Beaus Belleringer in Cathy Atkinson's herd - finally something young she can look forward to showing. Frankie is by KLR Reflection (Tex) out of a 17 hand Thoroughbred mare, so we know he will be a big hunt seat horse - and a great colored one.

We still have many more weanlings and yearlings looking for great homes, including many palominos, so don't hesitate to stop by and check out the herd!

New homes for four of our horses!

Congratulations to Ashley and Rob Wise on their purchase of our AQHA filly SS Shez A Mae Zing and AQHA gelding My Little Trooper!

Mae is a 2 year old flaxen chestnut filly with tons of personality and talent. Her dam is a full sister to an AQHA Versatility Horse of the Year with 2000+ points. Mae loves people and is looking for a job to do, so we are pleased she has gone to a new home where she can begin her riding career.

The Wise's also took home My Little Trooper, a black-bay Appendix gelding who is a grandson of Coosa. Trooper is an athletic horse who has shown potential in many areas including working cattle and jumping. The Wise's are the perfect match to bring out his potential.

Ashley Wise is additionally partnering with her friend Leigh Bryan on a little filly named Muffin who they plan to train and resell. If you are looking for a fancy large pony, this filly is going to be a superstar. She is an adorable doll-headed two year old filly, a "surprise" gift from a mare we purchased at auction who was not supposed to be in foal. Muffin is super sweet and a fancy mover, so it wasn't a bad surprise at all, although it will still take some detective work to determine who her daddy is.

Finally, Leigh fell in love with "Gala," one of our tallest yearlings, and decided to take her home. Gala is a bay filly by KLR Reflection out of Bess Conclusion. She is sweet, scared of nothing, and will be a tall girl. "Bessie" is proving to be a terrific broodmare. We purchased her at auction a few years ago - she and her dam Kit Cluesive had fallen into the hands of a horse dealer and were at risk. Bessie has now given us two terrific fillies in a row - this year's edition is a buckskin with a big hip and lovely head - and Kit gave us a very friendly and correct palomino colt before we sold her.

Congratulations, ladies, on your new horses! We have many more available so please feel free to send us an e-mail and let us know what you are looking for.

April 2007 News from Yellow Horses, Inc.

We have moved to our new facility in McKenna, Washington and the broodmare band is very much enjoying their new pastures! We have three new 2007 babies so far. The first is a beautiful buckskin filly with a doll head and a huge hip, by Sierras Super Star out of Bess Conclusion. She is sweet as sugar and a fantastic show prospect for someone wanting to compete in both AQHA and ABRA or IBHA shows.

The second to arrive was a huge palomino colt by KLR Reflection out of Just Plain Nasty. Unfortunately, we lost "Nasty" - who was the opposite of her name - to a twisted intestine just four days after baby was born. It was touch and go for a while but now the baby has been adopted by our senior broodmare, Miss Dusty Devil, and with the help of some milk replacer, is doing well. He is the biggest of the babies - not surprising since his mother was a 17 hand Thoroughbred.

Our most recent baby arrived just before we moved - a fancy chestnut colt by Sierras Super Star out of Dignified Annie. Annie is one of the newest members of our broodmare band, a gorgeous daughter of The Dignitary. Not only is she a wonderful broodmare, but she rides too - last fall, she took home a collection of hunt seat ribbons at a large open show with a child who had only ridden her once before!

That's the news for now, although I am sure we will have more baby pictures to post very soon...
